Classical education in the 'New York Times'?

Of all places, the New York Times recently carried a piece by Stanley Fish called 'A Classical Education: Back to the Future' in which the author promotes the value--and perhaps the necessity--of a classical education.

While we might be tempted to say "it's about time", it is interesting that even at the NYT there is a beginning realization that standardized testing and career preparation do not make for effective education.

  1. Thank you for sharing. In addition to the article the comments left by other readers were also quite interesting... particularly one in which the commenter attempted to politicize classical education. Hmmmm, definitely food for thought.
